Why Hawaii Sustainable Foundation Was Created
Why Hawaii Sustainable Foundation Was Created
Every community has people, traditions, and local businesses that quietly help shape its future.
In Hawaiʻi, sustainability is often discussed through the lens of environmental protection, climate resilience, and conservation. These issues are important. However, sustainability is also about people.
It is about the families who continue local traditions, the educators who pass knowledge to future generations, the artists and cultural practitioners who keep stories alive, and the small businesses that strengthen local communities.
At Hawaii Sustainable Foundation, we believe Hawaiʻi remains strong when these people and communities have opportunities to thrive.
Our mission is to support the long-term sustainability of Hawaiʻi by recognizing, highlighting, and strengthening the people, cultures, and locally rooted businesses that contribute to our islands every day.
Through educational initiatives, community storytelling, partnerships, and public awareness efforts, we aim to help preserve the knowledge, values, and connections that make Hawaiʻi unique.
Sustainability is not only about protecting what exists today.
It is also about ensuring that future generations continue to have access to the people, knowledge, culture, and opportunities that help Hawaiʻi remain Hawaiʻi.
This belief is what led to the creation of Hawaii Sustainable Foundation.
Building Hawaiʻi Together.
Who We Are
Hawaii Sustainable Foundation is a nonprofit charitable and educational organization dedicated to supporting the long-term sustainability of Hawaiʻi.
We believe sustainability extends beyond environmental stewardship. It also includes strengthening communities, supporting cultural knowledge, encouraging local economic resilience, and creating opportunities for future generations.
Our work focuses on three interconnected areas:
People
Strong communities begin with people.
We recognize individuals whose work, knowledge, leadership, and service contribute to Hawaiʻi in meaningful ways.
Culture
Culture connects generations.
We support efforts that help preserve, share, and celebrate the traditions, stories, values, and experiences that continue to shape Hawaiʻi.
Locally Rooted Businesses
Small and family-owned businesses play an important role in local communities.
These businesses often create jobs, support families, preserve local knowledge, and contribute to the unique character of Hawaiʻi.
By highlighting and supporting these efforts, we hope to encourage stronger connections between people, culture, and community.
Together, these elements contribute to a more resilient and sustainable Hawaiʻi.
